Buchanan's Litigation Co-chair Steven Bizar Appointed to Serve as a Reviewer on the Philadelphia Bar Association's Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention
March 2, 2010
Philadelphia, PA, March 2, 2010 — Steven E. Bizar — a shareholder and co-chair of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney's Litigation Section — was recently appointed to serve as a reviewer in the Investigative Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention. The appointment is for a three-year term, ending December 31, 2012.
The Commission helps to set standards for judicial service on Philadelphia's Common Pleas and Municipal Courts and, by communicating its findings to the public, helps to ensure an informed electorate.
As a reviewer, Bizar will be appointed to an investigate team to review a judicial candidate's questionnaire, meet with the candidate, contact individuals who have had professional relationships with the candidate and assist the team coordinator in preparing a report to the full Commission regarding the candidate.
About the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention
Made up of 120 members, one-third of whom are not lawyers, and covering a broad spectrum of the legal profession and the public sector, the Investigative Division interviews each candidate, performs a background check and interviews all professional associates of the candidate.
The Investigative Division then presents a report to the Commission on Judicial Selection and Retention, which includes the President Judges of Common Pleas Court and Municipal Court, the Chief Public Defender, the City Solicitor, the Chancellor, Chancellor-Elect and Vice Chancellor of the Bar Association and representatives of diverse interests within the community. After interviewing each candidate, the Commission selects reviewers based on qualifications such as legal ability and training, trial experience, character, integrity, judicial temperament and mental and physical ability and community involvement.

He is co-chair of the firm's Litigation Section and a member of its Antitrust and Trade Regulation, Business Litigation, Securities Litigation, White-Collar Defense and Investigations, and Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Groups.
